I am sure everyone is familiar with this bold phrase and have probably heard it many times. Let’s take a moment to think about what it means.

Research shows that emotions such as sadness can ultimately have key psychological benefits, such as increased motivation, better communication, and more accurate judgements. Therefore, a certain amount of adversity in our lives can only make us happier and more resilient in the long run.

I think this is important to remember, especially considering the year we have had.

Weather it is financial, emotional, physical, or social adversities, the deciding factor is how we deal with these hardships to ensure growth.

  1. Maintain a positive outlook. One way to achieve this is to have a plan in place – set goals and create new habits.
  2. Learn new skills on how to experience emotional adversity without letting them overwhelm us.
  3. It is important not to let your limitations define who you are. Accepting your limitations makes room for mental and spiritual growth.

We are all social creatures, so it’s no surprise that this year has left many feeling empty. Loneliness has had an immense impact on health so it’s important to open yourself up to new friendships, skills, and perspectives.

With the right attitude and plenty of compassion, we can all overcome adversity. And remember to take the time to relax when you feel overwhelmed.
